This month (June) marks a year since I found #RaceRunning and RaceRunning Dragons (Glos) at the Athletics Club in Gloucester where I train.
I can honestly say that this year I have found my calling in life! I am amazed at how far I have come in just a year of this sport. It has given me more of a targeted goal to work towards at the gym and has also given me the final push I needed to get walking! The gym exercises will help with the walking and the walking will help with RaceRunning – it’s a win-win situation!
An athlete’s work is never done though! I have realised that eating to fuel my exercise is important as is doing the right sort of exercises that are specific to the sport. Small goals make big differences! From social interactions and enhanced self-esteem to physical goals and life lessons, it is safe to say that RaceRunning has helped me in many ways.
During this year I have joined regular training sessions and more recently have been introduced to competitive events. I train at RaceRunning twice a week whilst training at the gym at least twice a week too. My muscles are getting stronger and I am re-establishing the neuronal pathways used to innovate walking muscles. My coach says my strength and technique has improved and this is evident in competitive events. To date I have progressed from 39.0 to 30.8 seconds for the 100m and 3.36 to 2.47 seconds in the 400m!
I have my lovely coach to thank for this – my dedication and perseverance to the sport and all that goes with it has certainly paid off!
I am sure that there will be many more years of competing for me and I hope you can find success in your sport.
Remember…. ‘if you don’t use it, you’ll lose it!’
