Race Running and All Ability Athletics
RaceRunning is a relatively new sport, in which Chamwell leads the way in England. We were the first club to be formed and now have twelve RaceRunning trikes. These are composed of a tricycle frame with a saddle and chest support but no chain or pedals. They form a stable running frame, which can be used by people of all abilities.
We have seen huge improvements in both general fitness and limb function in those who regularly take part in RaceRunning. For example, one young man learned to walk at the age of fifteen as a result of the regular exercise. The sport has just been recognised as a Paralympic event and is rapidly growing in popularity.
Two of our athletes, Max Quinn and Charlie Denman attended the World Championships in Denmark in 2018. Charlie was selected to represent England at the World Games in Barcelona in July 2018, where she won bronze in 200m and 800m, silver in 100m and Gold in 400m. In August 2018 she attended the National Cerebral Palsy Sports Series in Doncaster, adding 4 more gold medals to her collection!
