The Milestone Special School in Gloucester.

The Milestone is one of the UK’s largest special schools with 308 pupils aged 2 to 16 with severe and complex special needs. It is rated as ‘Outstanding in All Areas’ by Ofsted.

The pupils’ medical issues include cerebral palsy, severe genetic conditions, neuromuscular disorders, hearing loss and visual impairment. Many have additional nursing needs, such as feeding difficulties requiring gastrostomy tube feeding or severe epilepsy requiring control of acute seizures. Many of the children are non-ambulant wheelchair users whilst others are physically fit but have severe autism, poor communication skills, learning disability or challenging behaviour.
